This has been one of my favorite lenses over the past six years -- wish I had discovered it earlier. It'\;s not as sharp as a good Nikkor prime, but plenty sharp given its versatility. Add to that the fact that it'\;s built like a tank and can be bought pretty cheaply (I own three of these now -- can'\;t resist a good deal). The macro feature on this lens (in contrast to some other Nikkor manual focus lenses) is OK -- in that mode, focus becomes mostly push-pull instead of twist. It'\;s a great lens to pair with a 24mm or 20mm for hiking -- just about every focal length that I would use is covered. Some of my favorite images have been captured with this lens.
