Note on Looks
Looks are not included in the default downloadable preset. The reason is that they often require extra files installed on your system (e.g. many film emulation packs).
Without these files in place, the presets downloaded from PixelPeeper couldn't be imported. That's why PixelPeeper presets focus on universal settings. If you want to replicate the Look part, you can copy it manually, but in many cases, it won't have an effect without the looks installed on your computer first.
The "Full XMP Settings" version of the downloadable preset will include the look and other (complete) adjustments. If you have the required looks installed, you should be able to import this XMP file to Lightroom.

How this look was made
The edit creates a controlled, slightly muted cityscape with strong architectural detail and a dramatic but restrained sky. Broad tonal recovery opens the shaded buildings and protects cloud texture, while deepened blacks and brighter whites restore contrast. Extensive color reduction keeps the scene subdued, with cooler slate-blue accents and warm masonry separated through calibration and white balance choices.
Overall look
The photograph has a naturalistic but stylized urban-documentary finish: dense detail, subdued building colors, and pronounced cloud structure without an overt HDR appearance. Adobe Standard is used as the camera profile, with an Adobe Color look table contributing the starting color rendering. There is no added grain, vignette, or dehaze, so the result remains clean and relatively neutral in its effects.
Light and tone
The core treatment is aggressive dynamic-range compression. Highlights are reduced to -72 and shadows raised to +74, retaining texture in the bright clouds while revealing façades and streets that would otherwise look heavy. Exposure is nudged down only slightly, while whites are raised to +36 and blacks lowered to -41. Those opposing endpoint moves prevent the large highlight and shadow recovery from making the image look flat: clouds retain bright edges, while windows, rooflines, and the street keep convincing dark anchors. A modest contrast increase and a custom curve that lifts the middle values further brighten architectural midtones without lifting the absolute black point.
Color
A custom white balance of 5795 K with +13 tint introduces a modest warm-magenta foundation, helping the pale stone buildings avoid looking cold under the overcast sky. At the same time, individual color saturation is heavily restrained: yellow is reduced by 58, blue by 52, orange by 40, and several secondary colors are also lowered. This suppresses distracting roof, façade, and sky color and gives the city a cohesive, almost desaturated palette. Camera Calibration adds a more complex separation: the blue primary is shifted strongly and increased in saturation, while the red primary is shifted but substantially desaturated and green is also reduced. In interaction with the HSL reductions, this does not simply create vivid blues; it more likely shapes the sky and cool painted surfaces toward a controlled slate/cyan character while keeping their overall intensity low. This interpretation is a visual inference from the photograph and settings.
Detail and noise
Texture at +12 and clarity at +7 emphasize stonework, windows, cornices, and cloud contours without pushing the image into a harsh, heavily processed look. Standard sharpening at 40 provides general crispness, although no masking is applied, so sharpening can affect both edges and smoother areas. Noise reduction is light: luminance smoothing is only 6, while color noise reduction is 21. Given the ISO 200 capture, this restrained treatment is appropriate for preserving fine architectural detail while cleaning minor chroma noise.
Composition and optical handling
The crop is essentially full-frame, trimming only tiny amounts from the sides, with a very small rotation of roughly 0.09° for alignment. Automatic lateral chromatic-aberration correction is enabled, useful around high-contrast rooflines and building edges. No lens profile, manual distortion correction, perspective transform, or Upright correction is applied, so the original wide-angle architectural geometry is largely preserved.
