Note on Looks
Looks are not included in the default downloadable preset. The reason is that they often require extra files installed on your system (e.g. many film emulation packs).
Without these files in place, the presets downloaded from PixelPeeper couldn't be imported. That's why PixelPeeper presets focus on universal settings. If you want to replicate the Look part, you can copy it manually, but in many cases, it won't have an effect without the looks installed on your computer first.
The "Full XMP Settings" version of the downloadable preset will include the look and other (complete) adjustments. If you have the required looks installed, you should be able to import this XMP file to Lightroom.

How this look was made
The edit creates a controlled, slightly dark urban-documentary look: deep blacks and crisp building detail frame a dramatically recovered sky, while broad color desaturation keeps the busy street from feeling overly colorful. The composition and perspective treatment reinforce the street’s strong central vanishing point.
Overall look
Adobe Color provides the starting rendering, but the finished image is deliberately more restrained and contrasty than a neutral conversion. Exposure was lowered by 0.65 EV, color was selectively muted, and the black point was strengthened. The result feels dramatic and graphic without using dehaze, grain, or a vignette.
Light and tone
The main tonal strategy is strong dynamic-range compression followed by firmer endpoints. Highlights were reduced substantially (-72) to retain structure in the bright clouds and pale façades, while shadows were opened aggressively (+74) so cars, storefronts, and shaded building faces remain readable. Whites were then raised (+36) and blacks lowered (-41), restoring bright cloud edges and deep street-level anchors after that recovery. A modest contrast increase and a custom curve that lifts the middle values add separation and prevent the recovered scene from becoming flat. Visually, this produces an HDR-like balance while preserving a naturally dark foreground.
Color
A custom white balance of 5795 K with +13 tint gives the neutral architecture a subtly warm, magenta-leaning base. Most visible color families were then subdued: blue, orange, yellow, red, green, and purple saturation were all reduced to varying degrees, with especially strong reductions in blue and yellow. This quiets signage, façades, road markings, and the sky, allowing shape and light to dominate. Camera Calibration makes broader hue shifts—most notably shifting and strengthening the blue primary while reducing and shifting the red primary. In interaction with the large HSL blue reduction, this likely helps create the cooler cyan-blue sky without making it intensely saturated. This is a visual inference based on the combined settings and photograph.
Detail and optical correction
Texture (+12) and mild clarity (+7) emphasize masonry, windows, vehicles, and cloud definition without the harsher atmospheric effect of dehaze. Standard sharpening at 40 adds general crispness. Only light luminance noise reduction is present, which is appropriate for the clean ISO 200 capture, while moderate color-noise reduction suppresses small chromatic speckles. Automatic lateral chromatic-aberration correction is enabled, but no lens profile or manual distortion correction was applied.
Composition and geometry
An Upright transformation was applied, and the finished photograph shows controlled architectural verticals despite the dense rows of tall buildings. A modest crop removes about 3% from each side and roughly 6.5% from the top, tightening the frame around the roadway and central tower. The bottom remains intact, preserving the foreground car and lane lines that lead toward the vanishing point. The exact visual effect attributed to Upright is an inference from the transformation data and the corrected-looking architecture.
What mattered most
- Extreme highlight and shadow recovery holds detail in both the bright cloudscape and shaded street.
- Raised whites and lowered blacks restore punch after the broad tonal recovery.
- Selective desaturation creates a restrained palette, with the sky shaped by interacting HSL and calibration adjustments.
- Texture and mild clarity provide architectural crispness without dehaze.
- Perspective correction and a tight crop strengthen the centered, symmetrical street composition.
