Note on Looks

Looks are not included in the default downloadable preset. The reason is that they often require extra files installed on your system (e.g. many film emulation packs).

Without these files in place, the presets downloaded from PixelPeeper couldn't be imported. That's why PixelPeeper presets focus on universal settings. If you want to replicate the Look part, you can copy it manually, but in many cases, it won't have an effect without the looks installed on your computer first.

The "Full XMP Settings" version of the downloadable preset will include the look and other (complete) adjustments. If you have the required looks installed, you should be able to import this XMP file to Lightroom.

The edit creates a bright, clean still life with selective color: the red cup and purple flowers remain prominent while yellows, blues, greens, and oranges are heavily muted. A raised exposure and assertive custom tone curves produce the luminous white background and crisp dark-to-light separation, while the shallow depth of field comes primarily from the original f/2 capture rather than Lightroom effects.

Overall look

The image is styled as an airy, graphic tabletop scene. Neutral whites and grays dominate, with saturated red and purple acting as visual anchors. Adobe Color is used as the look with Adobe Standard recorded as the camera profile, providing a generally lively starting rendering before the selective HSL changes refine the palette.

Light and tone

Exposure was raised by 0.40 EV, brightening the entire frame. The custom composite tone curve strongly lifts much of the tonal range and pushes upper tones toward white, helping the pages, table highlights, and flower highlights feel luminous. Matching red, green, and blue channel curves add an S-shaped contrast treatment without introducing a channel-specific color cast. Because the Basic contrast, highlights, shadows, whites, and blacks sliders remain neutral, most of the tonal character comes from the exposure increase and these curves. The result is bright overall but still retains firm blacks in the coffee, camera, and deeper shadows.

Color and palette

A custom white balance of 5750 K with +11 tint shifts the neutral base slightly warm and magenta, which complements the red cup and purple flowers. The HSL mix then suppresses competing colors: yellow is reduced by 76, blue by 72, green by 37, and orange by 31. Red is reduced only slightly and purple/magenta saturation is left intact, so the cup and blossoms stand out against an increasingly neutral environment. Large hue changes—especially magenta at -51 and green at +26—reshape the floral colors, while smaller red, aqua, and blue hue shifts fine-tune their separation. No global saturation or vibrance was added, so the selective emphasis is created almost entirely through individual color controls.

Detail and optical correction

Sharpening is moderate at 40 with a 1.0 radius and 25 detail, giving defined edges to the cup, printed text, and in-focus camera without an aggressive processed texture. There is no masking, so sharpening applies broadly. Standard color noise reduction is present, but luminance noise reduction is zero; at the captured ISO 200, heavy noise smoothing was not necessary. The Sony FE 55mm F1.8 ZA lens profile is enabled at full distortion and vignetting correction strength, helping keep the tabletop geometry clean and illumination even.

Depth and finishing restraint

No clarity, texture, dehaze, grain, added vignette, crop, or perspective correction was used. This preserves the naturally soft transitions in the out-of-focus flowers rather than manufacturing softness or atmosphere in post. The shallow focus is materially explained by the 55mm lens captured at f/2: the cup is emphasized while foreground and background flowers blur into color shapes. This is capture character, not a Lightroom blur effect.

What mattered most

Brightness comes mainly from +0.40 EV and strong custom tone curves, not from highlight or shadow sliders.
Heavy desaturation of yellow and blue simplifies the scene into neutrals, red, and purple.
The warm-magenta white balance reinforces the retained accent colors.
Natural f/2 depth of field supplies the softness; Lightroom adds no clarity, texture, grain, or vignette effects.
Moderate sharpening and lens-profile correction keep the in-focus geometry polished and clean.
