Note on Looks
Looks are not included in the default downloadable preset. The reason is that they often require extra files installed on your system (e.g. many film emulation packs).
Without these files in place, the presets downloaded from PixelPeeper couldn't be imported. That's why PixelPeeper presets focus on universal settings. If you want to replicate the Look part, you can copy it manually, but in many cases, it won't have an effect without the looks installed on your computer first.
The "Full XMP Settings" version of the downloadable preset will include the look and other (complete) adjustments. If you have the required looks installed, you should be able to import this XMP file to Lightroom.

How this look was made
The edit creates a restrained, cinematic waterfront image with controlled contrast, recovered tonal detail, and deliberately muted color. The bridge and curved foreground architecture remain strongly defined, while the sky and water are pushed toward subdued blue-gray rather than vivid blue.
Overall look
The photograph is shaped around cool, understated urban geometry. Color has been selectively reduced, especially in the naturally dominant blues and yellows, producing a steel-gray palette. The Adobe Color look provides the starting color response, but calibration and HSL changes substantially refine it into something quieter and less literal.
Light and tone
A small exposure lift brightens the frame, while strong highlight recovery (-72) protects the bright sky and reflective edge of the foreground structure. A large shadow lift (+65) reveals detail in the dark architecture and water. Whites are then raised (+36) and blacks lowered (-41), restoring bright accents and deep anchors after that tonal compression. Added contrast and a gently lifted custom curve reinforce midtone presence. Together, these adjustments create broad dynamic range without making the scene look flat.
Color
The custom white balance is moderately warm with a magenta tint, which helps prevent the gray architecture and haze from becoming excessively cyan. At the same time, HSL strongly reduces blue saturation (-52), yellow (-58), and orange (-40), explaining the scene’s muted, almost monochromatic appearance. Camera Calibration pushes blue hue toward cyan and increases its underlying saturation, while the HSL reduction suppresses overt intensity; this interaction likely gives the sky and water a more controlled blue-gray separation instead of simply draining them. Red and green calibration saturation are also reduced, limiting stray warm and green color.
Detail
Texture (+12) and mild clarity (+7) enhance the seams, railing, bridge cables, and water surface without creating a heavily processed haloed look. Sharpening is moderate, with no masking, so it acts across most of the frame. Only light luminance noise reduction is used, consistent with the clean ISO 200 capture, while color noise reduction helps suppress small chromatic speckles. Automatic lateral chromatic-aberration correction is enabled, useful around the high-contrast bridge cables and architectural edges.
Composition and effects
The frame was cropped slightly and rotated by about 1.4 degrees to refine alignment and strengthen the sweep of the foreground curve toward the bridge. No added vignette, grain, or dehaze is used, so the natural atmospheric softness over the distant shoreline is retained rather than forced into extra clarity.
What mattered most
- Strong highlight recovery and shadow opening preserve information across the bright sky and dark foreground.
- Raised whites and lowered blacks restore punch after the broad tonal compression.
- Selective desaturation—not global saturation—creates the restrained blue-gray palette.
- Modest texture and clarity emphasize architectural geometry while preserving the hazy atmosphere.
- The slight crop and rotation polish the strong leading curve and bridge alignment.
