Note on Looks
Looks are not included in the default downloadable preset. The reason is that they often require extra files installed on your system (e.g. many film emulation packs).
Without these files in place, the presets downloaded from PixelPeeper couldn't be imported. That's why PixelPeeper presets focus on universal settings. If you want to replicate the Look part, you can copy it manually, but in many cases, it won't have an effect without the looks installed on your computer first.
The "Full XMP Settings" version of the downloadable preset will include the look and other (complete) adjustments. If you have the required looks installed, you should be able to import this XMP file to Lightroom.

How this look was made
The edit creates a muted, slightly cinematic street-photography look. Broad tonal recovery keeps detail in both the pale mural face and the pedestrian, while lifted blacks and a custom curve soften contrast. Most colors are heavily restrained, leaving the orange cap and warm skin as the principal accents against the cool blue-gray wall.
Composition and overall look
A substantial crop tightens the frame around the visual exchange between the pedestrian and the oversized painted face. The woman remains on the left while the mural dominates the right, reinforcing the impression that the two figures are confronting one another. This relationship is primarily photographic, but the crop removes peripheral space and makes it more immediate.
Light and tone
Exposure was raised by 0.40 EV, then highlights were reduced by 51 and whites by 31 to protect the bright mural face and the woman’s white clothing. Shadows were raised by 51, revealing detail in the dark wall, clothing folds, and mural contours. Blacks were also lifted by 24, and the custom tone curve raises the black point noticeably, producing faded rather than deep, hard blacks. Together these controls compress the tonal range while preserving local separation, giving the image its soft, matte documentary character.
Color and mood
The custom white balance is warm at 6950 K with a slight magenta tint, which helps the pedestrian’s skin and cap avoid looking cold. At the same time, blue toning at hue 210 is applied subtly to both shadows and highlights, and the individual RGB curves introduce additional cool color shaping. The result is a cool blue-gray atmosphere with restrained warmth in the subject.
Selective color emphasis
The HSL treatment suppresses many competing colors: red, yellow, blue, magenta, and especially purple saturation are reduced. Orange saturation is increased slightly instead. This selective palette is central to the image: the orange cap and skin remain conspicuous, while the wall, lettering, clothing stripes, and mural settle into muted blue-gray and near-neutral tones. Global saturation and vibrance remain unchanged, so the subdued result comes from targeted color control rather than blanket desaturation.
Detail and texture
Moderate sharpening is applied with a radius of 1.0 and standard detail settings, preserving the mural’s painted texture, facial lines, and clothing edges without an overtly crisp treatment. Color noise reduction is set to 25, while luminance noise reduction is absent. Given the ISO 200 capture, heavy luminance smoothing was not necessary, allowing the wall texture and fine detail to remain intact.
Effects and restraint
No added clarity, texture, dehaze, grain, or vignette is present. This keeps the finish understated: the gritty quality comes from the photographed wall and mural rather than artificial texture enhancement, while attention is directed through composition and selective color rather than edge darkening.
