Note on Looks
Looks are not included in the default downloadable preset. The reason is that they often require extra files installed on your system (e.g. many film emulation packs).
Without these files in place, the presets downloaded from PixelPeeper couldn't be imported. That's why PixelPeeper presets focus on universal settings. If you want to replicate the Look part, you can copy it manually, but in many cases, it won't have an effect without the looks installed on your computer first.
The "Full XMP Settings" version of the downloadable preset will include the look and other (complete) adjustments. If you have the required looks installed, you should be able to import this XMP file to Lightroom.

How this look was made
The edit creates a bright, minimalist, nearly monochromatic scene while preserving the woman as a small dark visual anchor. Strong global brightening and expanded upper tones make the sky and wet surfaces approach white; selective color reduction suppresses most environmental hues, while firm blacks keep the paving, dress, and reflections from becoming washed out. A rotated, tightly considered crop strengthens the geometric walkways and large negative space.
Overall look and composition
The finished image is deliberately high-key and sparse, with the figure isolated against a broad white background. The crop is rotated by about 4.18° and trims the original frame substantially, refining the alignment and placement of the architectural lines. The woman sits high and right of center, while the dark foreground path creates a strong diagonal lead toward her. This contrast between large empty areas and a small human subject gives the photograph its quiet, graphic quality.
Light and tone
Exposure was raised by a substantial +1.40 stops, establishing the luminous, fog-like appearance. Whites (+43) and highlights (+67) were then pushed further, allowing the sky and reflective pools to become very pale and visually merge in places. Shadows were opened (+34), so detail remains visible in the dark paving and dress rather than collapsing into silhouette. Blacks were simultaneously lowered (-27), restoring dark anchors and edge definition. The custom tone curve lifts the absolute black point while gently brightening much of the tonal range; combined with the negative Blacks setting, this produces deep-looking but slightly softened dark tones rather than harsh, fully clipped black.
Color treatment
The global Saturation and Vibrance controls remain neutral, but the HSL mix removes color selectively and aggressively. Yellow is reduced most strongly (-87), followed by blue (-75), green (-65), magenta (-58), purple (-51), and aqua (-49). This strips color from the architecture, reflected sky, and wet surfaces while leaving red unchanged and orange almost intact. As a result, the woman’s skin and warm hair retain subtle warmth against an environment that reads as cool gray and white. A custom white balance of 5650 K with a pronounced +26 magenta tint also helps prevent the pale scene from appearing green or cyan.
Detail and texture
Standard sharpening is applied at Amount 40 with a 1.0 radius and modest detail, giving the paving joints, dress pattern, and figure enough definition without making the hazy background crisp. Color noise reduction is present at 25, while luminance noise reduction is absent. This is consistent with the clean ISO 200 capture, where strong smoothing was unnecessary.
Grain and finishing
A conspicuous Grain amount of 40, with moderate size and roughness, overlays the otherwise smooth high-key surfaces. This keeps the large white sky and pools from looking digitally sterile and gives the image a film-like, tactile finish. No post-crop vignette, Dehaze, Clarity, or Texture was added, preserving the open, soft atmosphere rather than forcing local contrast.
Retouching
Several healing operations were used. Inference: these likely removed small marks or distracting elements from the clean paving and reflective areas, where isolated blemishes would be especially noticeable. The retouching supports the image’s uncluttered, minimalist presentation rather than changing its main structure.
What mattered most
- The high-key appearance comes primarily from the +1.40 exposure increase combined with strongly raised highlights and whites.
- Opened shadows reveal the dark structures, while lowered blacks preserve the woman and walkways as graphic anchors.
- Heavy selective desaturation makes the setting nearly monochrome while retaining restrained warmth in skin and hair.
- Rotation and cropping organize the geometric paths and emphasize negative space.
- Strong added grain supplies texture without sacrificing the photograph’s soft, airy atmosphere.
