Note on Looks
Looks are not included in the default downloadable preset. The reason is that they often require extra files installed on your system (e.g. many film emulation packs).
Without these files in place, the presets downloaded from PixelPeeper couldn't be imported. That's why PixelPeeper presets focus on universal settings. If you want to replicate the Look part, you can copy it manually, but in many cases, it won't have an effect without the looks installed on your computer first.
The "Full XMP Settings" version of the downloadable preset will include the look and other (complete) adjustments. If you have the required looks installed, you should be able to import this XMP file to Lightroom.

How this look was made
The edit creates a dark, restrained woodland look with muted, deep greens and controlled highlights. Tonal recovery preserves detail in the white mug while a lifted black point and opened shadows keep the dark AeroPress readable. Strong selective color desaturation prevents the moss and foliage from overpowering the subject, while moderate clarity gives the central objects extra definition against the naturally blurred surroundings.
Overall look
The Adobe Color look is combined with a slightly reduced exposure and a custom tone curve for a moody, low-key result. The photograph remains color rather than monochrome, but most foliage-related colors have been heavily subdued. The shallow depth of field is primarily capture-related: the 55mm lens at f/1.8 produces the soft foreground and background, allowing the AeroPress and mug to stand out without masking or artificial blur.
Light and tone
Exposure is lowered slightly by 0.15 EV. Highlights are reduced strongly to -65 and whites to -24, protecting the mug and the small bright background areas from becoming harsh. Shadows are raised to +39 and blacks to +16, recovering information in the nearly black AeroPress. The custom tone curve lifts the absolute black point while keeping much of the lower midtone range dark, producing soft, slightly matte deepest shadows without making the image look flat. Individual red, green, and blue curves add gentle contrast through the midtones and upper tones while introducing only subtle color separation.
Color
A custom white balance of 4550K with a small magenta tint keeps the shaded woodland scene relatively cool and avoids an overly yellow-green cast. The main styling comes from HSL: green saturation is reduced by 68 and green luminance by 47, making the moss rich and dark rather than vivid. Yellow is shifted strongly in hue, desaturated, and darkened; aqua and blue are also heavily desaturated. Orange is shifted to its maximum hue value, desaturated, and darkened, though its visible influence depends on how much orange existed in the source. Together these changes compress the background into subdued forest tones while preserving enough color variation to feel natural rather than grayscale.
Subject definition and detail
Clarity at +20 increases midtone edge contrast, helping the AeroPress lettering, ridges, and mug rim appear crisp against the soft foliage. Standard sharpening is applied at amount 40 with a 1.0 radius and modest detail recovery. No sharpening mask is used, so sharpening can affect the foliage and bokeh as well as the subject, although the restrained settings limit the effect.
Noise and optics
Color noise reduction is set to 25, while luminance noise reduction is absent. That balance is appropriate to the clean ISO 200 capture: it suppresses minor chroma speckling without smoothing away texture. The Adobe lens profile for the Sony FE 55mm F1.8 ZA is enabled at full distortion and vignetting correction strength. There is no added post-crop vignette, grain, dehaze, or crop, so the dark framing and soft peripheral falloff visible in the photograph are not created by those effects.
What mattered most
- Strong highlight and white recovery controls the mug while lifted shadows reveal the dark AeroPress.
- A lifted black point paired with dark lower midtones creates a soft but moody tonal foundation.
- Heavy desaturation and darkening of greens and yellows produce the restrained woodland palette.
- Moderate clarity concentrates visual definition on the in-focus subject.
- The pronounced background blur comes from the f/1.8 capture, not a Lightroom blur effect.
