Note on Looks
Looks are not included in the default downloadable preset. The reason is that they often require extra files installed on your system (e.g. many film emulation packs).
Without these files in place, the presets downloaded from PixelPeeper couldn't be imported. That's why PixelPeeper presets focus on universal settings. If you want to replicate the Look part, you can copy it manually, but in many cases, it won't have an effect without the looks installed on your computer first.
The "Full XMP Settings" version of the downloadable preset will include the look and other (complete) adjustments. If you have the required looks installed, you should be able to import this XMP file to Lightroom.

How this look was made
The edit creates a crisp, slightly film-textured Venice cityscape with warm terracotta roofs set against a restrained cyan-blue sky. Tonal recovery keeps the pale architecture and sky controlled while preserving readable rooftop shadows, and selective HSL adjustments concentrate attention on the orange masonry rather than broadly increasing saturation.
Overall look and composition
The frame was cropped from the top and left, tightening the composition around the rooftops, domes, and bell tower while still retaining a large area of open sky. Lens-profile correction for the Sony FE 55mm F1.8 ZA was enabled at full strength, helping keep the architectural scene geometrically clean and correcting the lens’s native distortion and vignetting. No perspective correction or added vignette was used.
Light and tone
Exposure was lowered slightly by 0.30 EV, while highlights were reduced and shadows lifted by equal moderate amounts. This compresses the scene’s strong daylight range: pale buildings and bright sky remain controlled, but detail survives beneath roofs and balconies. Whites were then raised substantially and blacks lowered, restoring bright sparkle and a firm dark anchor after that recovery. A small contrast increase and custom curve deepen the lower tones while gently lifting the brighter midtones, producing a punchy result without sacrificing highlight detail.
Color
The as-shot white balance is moderately neutral at 5050 K with a slight magenta tint, allowing the roofs to read warmly without making the entire image golden. Global vibrance and saturation were raised only slightly. Most of the color styling comes from targeted HSL work: yellow was shifted strongly toward orange and heavily desaturated, while green was also greatly reduced. This consolidates mixed roof and masonry colors into a more coherent terracotta palette and removes distracting yellow-green notes. Orange luminance was raised, helping sunlit brick and roof tiles stay vivid and readable. Aqua and blue saturation were reduced, with small hue shifts, giving the expansive sky its soft, restrained cyan-blue character rather than an intense modern blue. Inference: this selective warm-versus-cool treatment is intended to evoke a refined travel-postcard or lightly vintage palette.
Detail and texture
Moderate sharpening was applied with a standard 1.0 radius and low detail emphasis. Because masking is zero, sharpening affects broad areas as well as architectural edges, although the restrained amount avoids an aggressively crisp appearance. Color noise reduction is present, but luminance noise reduction is off; at the captured ISO 100, strong luminance smoothing was unnecessary. Clarity, Texture, and Dehaze were all left neutral, so local contrast remains natural rather than highly processed.
Grain and finish
A relatively strong grain amount of 40, with medium size and frequency, adds visible texture—especially across the broad, even sky—and softens the otherwise clean digital rendering. This is the main finishing effect and supports the inferred film-like travel aesthetic. No post-crop vignette, color grading, split toning, or channel-specific tone curves were added, so the finish relies on grain, tonal shaping, and selective HSL color control.
What mattered most
- Recovered highlights and lifted shadows balance the bright daylight, while raised whites and lowered blacks preserve visual punch.
- Strong yellow and green suppression simplifies the palette and makes the terracotta rooftops the dominant color feature.
- Reduced aqua and blue saturation keeps the large sky calm and prevents it from overpowering the architecture.
- Intentional grain supplies the vintage texture; the edit does not rely on Clarity, Dehaze, vignetting, or color grading.
