Note on Looks
Looks are not included in the default downloadable preset. The reason is that they often require extra files installed on your system (e.g. many film emulation packs).
Without these files in place, the presets downloaded from PixelPeeper couldn't be imported. That's why PixelPeeper presets focus on universal settings. If you want to replicate the Look part, you can copy it manually, but in many cases, it won't have an effect without the looks installed on your computer first.
The "Full XMP Settings" version of the downloadable preset will include the look and other (complete) adjustments. If you have the required looks installed, you should be able to import this XMP file to Lightroom.

How this look was made
The edit creates a bright, restrained architectural image with an almost monochrome palette, softened tonal endpoints, strong luminous highlights, and conspicuous film-like grain. Perspective correction keeps the building’s geometry disciplined, while the absence of clarity, texture, and dehaze preserves a gentle rather than hyper-detailed rendering.
Overall look
The photograph is intentionally minimalist and nearly black-and-white without using Lightroom’s grayscale conversion. Adobe Color remains the base profile, but extensive individual color desaturation leaves the pale façade, gray paving, glass, and overcast sky as the dominant visual elements. This emphasizes shape, repetition, and architectural lines rather than color.
Light and tone
Exposure was raised by 0.55 stop, Whites by 28, and Highlights all the way to +100. Together these produce the very bright sky and luminous white façade, giving the scene its high-key, airy character. The treatment is not simply flat: Shadows were reduced while Blacks were raised, and the custom tone curve lifts the absolute black point but slightly darkens much of the shadow and midtone range. This creates defined steps, paving, window frames, and recesses without allowing them to become hard, featureless black. The curve also lowers the white endpoint, gently compressing the brightest output even as the highlight controls push bright source tones upward. The result is a soft, faded ceiling to the highlights rather than crisp pure white.
Color
The muted appearance comes primarily from targeted HSL reductions: yellow and green are almost completely removed, with strong reductions to blue, aqua, purple, and magenta as well. Orange is only slightly reduced and red is unchanged, but there is little strong warm color in the scene, so the finished image still reads as nearly monochrome. Green hue was shifted, though its heavy desaturation makes that change visually minor. A custom white balance of 5500 K with a slight magenta tint keeps the remaining neutrals from feeling strongly blue or green. No color grading or split toning was added.
Geometry and composition
An Upright perspective transformation was applied, which is especially relevant to this 35 mm architectural view. It helps regularize the building’s vertical and horizontal structure and supports the formal, graphic presentation. No manual crop was recorded, so the broad foreground sweep and converging paths remain part of the original framing. Lens-profile correction and automatic lateral chromatic-aberration correction were not enabled.
Detail and texture
Moderate sharpening was applied with a standard radius, but there is no masking and no added Texture or Clarity. Dehaze is also at zero. This avoids an aggressively crisp or gritty digital treatment in the façade and sky. Color noise reduction is present, while luminance noise reduction is absent; at the supplied ISO 100 capture setting, heavy luminance cleanup would generally be unnecessary.
Effects
Grain is a major finishing element: Amount 40 with Size 30 and medium roughness adds clearly visible texture, particularly across the blank sky and smooth white walls. This deliberately counters the clean digital capture and reinforces the understated, film-like character. No vignette was added, so brightness remains open and even toward the frame edges.
What mattered most
- The high-key appearance comes from raised exposure, whites, and an extreme +100 Highlights setting.
- A lifted black point and compressed white endpoint soften both tonal extremes, while darker lower midtones preserve architectural definition.
- Heavy selective desaturation creates an almost monochrome result without converting the photograph to grayscale.
- Perspective correction strengthens the ordered architectural geometry.
- Strong grain supplies the principal surface texture; clarity, texture, dehaze, and vignetting were deliberately left neutral.
