Note on Looks
Looks are not included in the default downloadable preset. The reason is that they often require extra files installed on your system (e.g. many film emulation packs).
Without these files in place, the presets downloaded from PixelPeeper couldn't be imported. That's why PixelPeeper presets focus on universal settings. If you want to replicate the Look part, you can copy it manually, but in many cases, it won't have an effect without the looks installed on your computer first.
The "Full XMP Settings" version of the downloadable preset will include the look and other (complete) adjustments. If you have the required looks installed, you should be able to import this XMP file to Lightroom.

How this look was made
The edit creates a clean, controlled daylight look: the bright white birds and marble retain detail, the darker architecture remains readable, and the blue sky is made more prominent without becoming overly dark. Strong highlight recovery and shadow lifting handle the scene’s wide tonal range, while deeper blacks and a custom curve preserve structure and contrast.
Overall look
Adobe Color provides a moderately vivid starting point, but the result remains natural rather than heavily stylized. The edit is primarily corrective and tonal: it balances bright white subjects against darker background elements while keeping the sky clear and colorful.
Light and tone
Exposure was lowered substantially, by 0.91 stop, and Highlights were reduced to -64. These are especially important for protecting texture in the birds’ white feathers and the sunlit marble. Shadows were then raised to +52 so the birds’ shaded areas and the distant building did not become too dense. Whites at +26 restore brightness and sparkle after the highlight compression, while Blacks at -25 re-establish depth. A small contrast increase reinforces separation. The custom master curve lifts the absolute black point while leaving the upper range comparatively restrained; this works against the negative Blacks setting to produce strong dark structure without an abruptly crushed black floor.
Color
A custom white balance of 5300 K with neutral tint keeps the marble and plumage visually neutral. Blue saturation was increased by 26 and blue luminance by 18, making the sky richer but also brighter and softer rather than deep or stormy. Green saturation was reduced by 39 and yellow by 19, muting the small areas of foliage and warm background color so they compete less with the birds. Subtle individual red, green, and blue curves also adjust color relationships through the tonal range, but there is no added color grading or split toning.
Detail
Moderate sharpening was applied with a 1.0 radius and relatively low detail emphasis, giving the feather edges and marble markings definition without an aggressive micro-texture look. Color noise reduction is set to its standard moderate level, while luminance noise reduction is absent. The ISO 100 capture supports that choice because visible luminance noise would be expected to be minimal.
Geometry and finishing
An Upright perspective correction is stored, likely intended to regularize the architectural lines of the marble structure and distant building. No crop is recorded, and there is no enabled lens-profile correction, manual distortion adjustment, vignette, grain, dehaze, clarity, or texture. The clean finish therefore comes mainly from tonal control, selective color treatment, and perspective correction rather than added effects.
What mattered most
- Strong exposure and highlight reduction preserve detail in the white birds and marble.
- Raised shadows reveal darker subjects and background architecture; deeper blacks restore contrast.
- Brighter, more saturated blues emphasize the sky, while greens and yellows are muted.
