Note on Looks
Looks are not included in the default downloadable preset. The reason is that they often require extra files installed on your system (e.g. many film emulation packs).
Without these files in place, the presets downloaded from PixelPeeper couldn't be imported. That's why PixelPeeper presets focus on universal settings. If you want to replicate the Look part, you can copy it manually, but in many cases, it won't have an effect without the looks installed on your computer first.
The "Full XMP Settings" version of the downloadable preset will include the look and other (complete) adjustments. If you have the required looks installed, you should be able to import this XMP file to Lightroom.

How this look was made
A restrained, cinematic dusk treatment emphasizes the contrast between the cool blue sky and warm window light. Highlights and color saturation were carefully reduced, while dense—but slightly softened—blacks and prominent grain give the photograph an understated film-like character.
Composition
The frame was cropped from the top and both sides, tightening attention around the tower, crescent moon, illuminated windows, and foreground lamp. No perspective correction or rotation was applied, so the architecture retains the camera’s natural viewpoint.
Light and tone
Exposure was raised only slightly, preserving the impression of evening rather than trying to brighten the scene into daylight. Highlights were reduced substantially (-44), helping the lamps and windows hold color and shape instead of becoming blank white areas. Whites were also pulled down slightly. A modest contrast increase and deeper Blacks (-19) keep the buildings weighty and silhouetted, while a small Shadows lift prevents the darkest architecture from becoming completely empty. The custom tone curve raises the absolute black floor and lowers the brightest endpoint; this softens the tonal extremes while the negative Blacks setting restores depth within that compressed range. The result is dark and contrasty, but not harsh or digitally clipped.
Color palette
The as-shot white balance at 5800K with a slight magenta tint supports the warm terracotta buildings and amber artificial light. HSL changes then refine the palette: yellow saturation is heavily reduced (-65), with smaller reductions to orange, red, and blue. This prevents the architecture and lights from becoming overly colorful and gives the sky a quieter, deeper blue. Yellow is shifted toward orange, red is shifted substantially toward orange, and blue is nudged toward aqua, reinforcing the visual separation between warm masonry and the cool dusk sky. The individual RGB curves add subtle channel-dependent shaping, with comparatively cooler dark tones and gently altered color through the midtones and upper tones. No separate color grading was added, so the warm–cool relationship comes primarily from white balance, HSL, and the RGB curves.
Detail and texture
The image was captured at ISO 4000 and f/1.8, relevant context for its naturally textured low-light appearance. Luminance noise reduction was left at zero, while standard color noise reduction was retained to suppress colored speckling without smoothing away monochromatic texture. Grain was deliberately added at Amount 30 with a relatively large size of 40. Inference: the editor appears to be embracing the high-ISO texture and making it feel more cohesive and film-like rather than attempting a polished, noise-free result. Moderate sharpening adds definition to rooflines, windows, and the crescent moon, though no masking was used.
Optical corrections and restrained effects
The matching Sony FE 55mm F1.8 ZA lens profile was enabled for standard distortion and vignetting correction. No post-crop vignette, dehaze, clarity, or texture adjustments were used. This keeps atmospheric falloff and local contrast natural, allowing the crop, tonal curve, muted color, and grain to carry the style.
What mattered most
- Strong highlight recovery preserves the glowing windows and lamps.
- Muted yellows, oranges, reds, and blues create a subdued cinematic palette.
- Warm white balance and hue shifts contrast the terracotta buildings with the cool sky.
- Deep Blacks combined with a lifted curve floor produce dense yet softly finished shadows.
- High-ISO texture is retained and supplemented with grain for a deliberate film-like surface.
