Note on Looks
Looks are not included in the default downloadable preset. The reason is that they often require extra files installed on your system (e.g. many film emulation packs).
Without these files in place, the presets downloaded from PixelPeeper couldn't be imported. That's why PixelPeeper presets focus on universal settings. If you want to replicate the Look part, you can copy it manually, but in many cases, it won't have an effect without the looks installed on your computer first.
The "Full XMP Settings" version of the downloadable preset will include the look and other (complete) adjustments. If you have the required looks installed, you should be able to import this XMP file to Lightroom.

How this look was made
The edit creates a bright, documentary travel image with controlled midday contrast, muted warm architecture, restrained color, and a pronounced film-like grain. Strong highlight recovery protects the sky and sunlit paving, while lifted shadows reveal the Pantheon’s portico and the people beneath it without making the scene look flat.
Overall look
The Adobe Color look provides a moderately vivid starting point, but the subsequent adjustments steer it toward a subdued, slightly vintage rendering. Global saturation is essentially neutral, vibrance is raised modestly, and several dominant colors are selectively reduced. This keeps the crowd lively while preventing the sunlit stone, paving, and sky from becoming overly colorful.
Light and tone
Exposure is almost unchanged, so the edit is primarily tonal rather than a general brightening. Highlights are reduced very strongly (-79) and whites are lowered, retaining detail in the pale sky, roof, façade, and reflective cobbles. Shadows are lifted substantially (+58), opening the deep portico and shaded foreground seating. A small contrast increase, slightly raised black control, and a custom curve restore shape after that broad dynamic-range compression. The curve darkens lower tones slightly while lifting upper midtones, giving the building and street more definition without sacrificing recovered detail.
Color
The as-shot white balance is moderately warm at 5050 K with a slight magenta tint, supporting the warm beige and rose tones of the masonry. Vibrance (+14) adds life mainly to weaker colors, while selective HSL reductions keep the palette restrained: yellow is reduced heavily, blue by a substantial amount, orange moderately, and red slightly. This helps the stone avoid a strong yellow-orange cast and produces the pale, understated blue sky visible in the finished image. The individual RGB curves also differ subtly; a reasonable visual inference is that they contribute to the gentle warm-film character, especially through the darker and upper-mid tonal regions, rather than creating obvious color grading.
Geometry and composition
An Upright perspective transformation was applied, which is useful for the strong architectural verticals of the Pantheon and neighboring buildings. The result keeps the monumental façade visually stable despite the upward camera angle. A small crop from the top and right trims the transformed edges while retaining the street activity, left-side building, and café foreground as framing elements.
Detail and texture
Moderate sharpening is applied with a standard radius and low detail emphasis. There is no added Texture, Clarity, or Dehaze, so fine structure comes mainly from the capture and sharpening rather than aggressive local contrast. Color noise reduction is present, but luminance noise reduction is absent. The low ISO 100 capture materially supports that choice because little luminance cleanup would have been necessary, preserving detail in the stonework and cobbles.
Effects
Grain is the strongest stylistic effect: amount 40 with medium size and roughness. It is visible across the sky and masonry and gives the otherwise clean digital file a tactile, analog-travel-photograph finish. No post-crop vignette is used, so attention is directed by the architecture, tonal contrast, and natural foreground shadows rather than artificial edge darkening.
What mattered most
- The central tonal strategy is strong highlight recovery paired with substantial shadow opening.
- Selective desaturation of yellow, blue, and orange creates the muted warm-stone and pale-sky palette.
- Custom curves and mild contrast prevent the recovered tones from appearing flat.
- Perspective correction strengthens the architectural composition.
- Pronounced grain supplies most of the image’s vintage, film-like character.
