Note on Looks
Looks are not included in the default downloadable preset. The reason is that they often require extra files installed on your system (e.g. many film emulation packs).
Without these files in place, the presets downloaded from PixelPeeper couldn't be imported. That's why PixelPeeper presets focus on universal settings. If you want to replicate the Look part, you can copy it manually, but in many cases, it won't have an effect without the looks installed on your computer first.
The "Full XMP Settings" version of the downloadable preset will include the look and other (complete) adjustments. If you have the required looks installed, you should be able to import this XMP file to Lightroom.

How this look was made
The edit creates a restrained, moody mountain landscape with soft luminous fog, controlled highlights, opened terrain shadows, and heavily muted foliage colors. Moderate contrast and clarity keep the rock formations defined without using Dehaze, so the clouds retain their natural softness and atmospheric depth.
Overall look
The image is shaped around contrast between pale mist and dark mountain forms. The palette is intentionally subdued: vegetation is pushed toward deep, quiet greens while the warmer rock remains visible as an earthy accent. There is no crop, vignette, grain, or perspective correction, so the look comes primarily from tonal recovery, selective color reduction, and curves rather than stylized effects.
Light and tone
A slight exposure lift (+0.17) brightens the scene, but very strong highlight recovery (-75) and reduced whites (-31) prevent the overcast sky and fog from becoming harsh or featureless. Shadows are opened substantially (+51), revealing the forest and layered rock, while raised Blacks (+32) keep the darkest areas from feeling completely blocked. Moderate global contrast (+14) and a custom S-shaped tone curve then restore separation: lower tones are deepened while upper midtones are lifted. This interaction produces dark, substantial mountains alongside soft, luminous clouds without an overly flat HDR appearance.
Atmosphere and local definition
Clarity is increased moderately (+15), strengthening midtone edges in the cliffs, trees, and ridgelines. Dehaze remains at zero, which is important to the visual character: the edit does not try to cut through the fog, allowing it to stay diffuse and to obscure distant forms naturally. Texture is also unchanged, avoiding excessive micro-detail in the clouds.
Color
A custom white balance of 5750 K with nearly neutral tint keeps the fog slightly warm-neutral rather than stark blue. Overall saturation is only slightly increased, but individual color ranges are strongly reduced: yellow is lowered most (-69), followed by magenta and purple, with green, blue, orange, and aqua also subdued. This broad selective desaturation explains the muted, cinematic palette while leaving red saturation unchanged, helping the reddish-brown rock retain more presence than the foliage. Green hue is shifted +23 toward aqua, contributing to the cooler, less yellow appearance of the forest. The individual RGB curves add a subtle cool bias—especially through relatively stronger blue values in the midtones and highlights—supporting the damp, overcast atmosphere. No split toning or active color grading is present.
Detail and noise
Sharpening is moderate at 40 with a 1.0 radius and low detail emphasis, enough to define the mountain contours without making the mist look brittle. Masking is zero, so sharpening is applied broadly rather than restricted to edges. Standard color-noise reduction is present, while luminance noise reduction is zero. The ISO 100 capture provides context here: little luminance-noise smoothing was needed, allowing the dark landscape to retain natural fine detail.
What mattered most
- Strong highlight and white reduction preserve detail and softness in the bright fog.
- Lifted shadows and blacks reveal the terrain, while contrast and the custom curve keep the mountains visually solid.
- Heavy selective desaturation—especially of yellow—creates the restrained, earthy palette.
- Moderate clarity defines the cliffs, but zero Dehaze preserves the fog as a central atmospheric element.
- Subtle RGB-curve cooling reinforces the damp, overcast mood without explicit color grading.
