Note on Looks
Looks are not included in the default downloadable preset. The reason is that they often require extra files installed on your system (e.g. many film emulation packs).
Without these files in place, the presets downloaded from PixelPeeper couldn't be imported. That's why PixelPeeper presets focus on universal settings. If you want to replicate the Look part, you can copy it manually, but in many cases, it won't have an effect without the looks installed on your computer first.
The "Full XMP Settings" version of the downloadable preset will include the look and other (complete) adjustments. If you have the required looks installed, you should be able to import this XMP file to Lightroom.

How this look was made
The edit creates a bright, controlled coastal image with open shadows, protected surf highlights, and a slightly softened black point. Most natural colors are deliberately muted—especially blue, green, and yellow—while the lighthouse reds are strengthened, making the building the visual anchor against the subdued rocks and ocean.
Composition and framing
A substantial crop from the top and left, with smaller trims on the right and bottom, tightens the scene around the lighthouse, descending path, rocks, and surrounding water. No rotation or perspective correction was applied, so the natural elevated viewpoint and strong diagonal path remain intact.
Light and tone
Exposure was raised by 1.48 stops, restoring brightness after the capture was made with −1.3 EV exposure compensation. This is paired with strong highlight recovery (−67) and reduced whites, which helps preserve texture in the bright surf and the lighthouse walls. Shadows were opened considerably and blacks lifted, revealing detail in the dark foreground vegetation and rock faces. The custom tone curve raises the deepest black point, giving the shadows a slightly softer, less absolute finish, while a small contrast increase keeps the image from becoming flat.
Color and subject emphasis
The custom white balance is moderately neutral at 5300K with a noticeable magenta tint, helping counter a potentially green cast in the coastal vegetation and rocks. Overall saturation is reduced slightly while vibrance is raised, producing restrained color without making the scene lifeless. Blue saturation is reduced strongly but blue luminance is increased, so the ocean appears lighter and less intensely cobalt. Yellow and green are also heavily desaturated, suppressing the dry grass and vegetation. In contrast, red saturation is increased, allowing the lighthouse roof and lantern to stand out clearly. Aqua, blue, green, and yellow hue shifts further refine the coastal palette rather than applying a broad color grade.
Detail and optical correction
Moderate sharpening adds definition to the railings, rocks, lighthouse edges, and water texture. There is no luminance noise reduction, which is appropriate for the clean ISO 100 capture, while standard color noise reduction addresses minor chroma speckling without smoothing fine detail. The dedicated Sony FE 55mm F1.8 ZA lens profile is enabled to correct lens distortion and vignetting automatically.
Finishing choices
No added clarity, texture, dehaze, grain, post-crop vignette, or split toning was used. This keeps the result natural and avoids exaggerating the already detailed rocks and ocean surface. The visual character comes primarily from tonal recovery, selective HSL color control, and the crop rather than from conspicuous effects.
What mattered most
- A large exposure lift is balanced by strong highlight recovery to brighten the scene without sacrificing surf and building detail.
- Lifted shadows and blacks create an open, slightly softened tonal structure.
- Muted blues, greens, and yellows keep the landscape restrained, while enhanced red directs attention to the lighthouse.
- The crop and diagonal walkway guide the eye through the rocks toward the lighthouse.
- Minimal effects preserve a clean, natural coastal-documentary appearance.
