Note on Looks
Looks are not included in the default downloadable preset. The reason is that they often require extra files installed on your system (e.g. many film emulation packs).
Without these files in place, the presets downloaded from PixelPeeper couldn't be imported. That's why PixelPeeper presets focus on universal settings. If you want to replicate the Look part, you can copy it manually, but in many cases, it won't have an effect without the looks installed on your computer first.
The "Full XMP Settings" version of the downloadable preset will include the look and other (complete) adjustments. If you have the required looks installed, you should be able to import this XMP file to Lightroom.

How this look was made
The edit creates a restrained, cinematic dusk rendering: the bridge remains a strong near-silhouette, while the sky and water are softly opened, highlight color is preserved, and blues are heavily muted. Lifted blacks and added grain give the image a slightly faded, film-like finish rather than a crisp modern digital look.
Overall look
The treatment balances a dark, graphic bridge against a subdued pastel sky. Adobe’s color rendering provides the base, but selective desaturation, a custom tone curve, and visible grain push the result toward a muted analog aesthetic. There is no added clarity, texture, dehaze, or vignette, so the image remains soft and atmospheric rather than aggressively defined.
Light and tone
Exposure was raised by half a stop, while Shadows (+53) and Blacks (+43) substantially opened the darker regions. At the same time, Highlights were reduced very strongly (-79) and Whites slightly lowered, protecting the sunset bands and preventing the pale sky from becoming harsh. Added Contrast (+30) restores separation after that tonal compression, helping the bridge retain its imposing silhouette. The custom curve lifts the black endpoint significantly and gently compresses the tonal range, producing faded charcoal shadows instead of absolute black. This interaction—opened shadows, controlled highlights, added contrast, and a raised black floor—is central to the cinematic look.
Color
The as-shot white balance is moderately warm at 5750K with a slight magenta tint, supporting the peach and pink light near the horizon. The strongest color move is selective muting: aqua saturation is reduced by 74 and blue by 51, which turns the sky and water into restrained blue-gray tones. Yellow saturation is also reduced and its hue shifted strongly toward orange, helping the sunset read as soft peach rather than vivid yellow. Blue is shifted slightly toward aqua, while the RGB curves introduce subtle channel differences that appear to reinforce cooler dark tones and delicately colored highlights. This is a targeted palette reduction rather than a global desaturation; overall Saturation is essentially unchanged at +1.
Detail and texture
Moderate sharpening was applied with a 1.0 radius and low detail emphasis, enough to define cables and structural edges without creating a brittle look. No luminance noise reduction was used, which is reasonable given the ISO 100 capture, while standard color noise reduction controls possible chroma speckling. Grain is intentionally prominent at Amount 30 with medium size and frequency. This added grain supplies much of the photograph’s tactile, film-like texture and keeps the smooth sky and water from appearing overly digital.
Composition and corrections
The frame was cropped on the sides and slightly along the bottom, then rotated by about 1.9 degrees. This likely served to level the scene and tighten attention around the bridge span; that purpose is a visual inference. No automatic lens profile, distortion correction, perspective correction, chromatic-aberration correction, or post-crop vignette was applied.
What mattered most
- Strong highlight recovery preserves the pastel sunset while raised shadows and blacks prevent the bridge from becoming featureless.
- A lifted black curve creates the faded charcoal foundation of the image.
- Heavy aqua and blue desaturation is responsible for the subdued blue-gray sky and water.
- Warm white balance and shifted yellows retain gentle peach color near the horizon.
- Medium-strength grain, rather than clarity or dehaze, provides the principal texture and film-like character.
