Note on Looks
Looks are not included in the default downloadable preset. The reason is that they often require extra files installed on your system (e.g. many film emulation packs).
Without these files in place, the presets downloaded from PixelPeeper couldn't be imported. That's why PixelPeeper presets focus on universal settings. If you want to replicate the Look part, you can copy it manually, but in many cases, it won't have an effect without the looks installed on your computer first.
The "Full XMP Settings" version of the downloadable preset will include the look and other (complete) adjustments. If you have the required looks installed, you should be able to import this XMP file to Lightroom.

How this look was made
The edit creates a restrained, cool-toned landscape in which the luminous fog remains soft while the surrounding vegetation and rock retain depth. Broad tonal recovery controls the scene’s high contrast, selective color reductions prevent the foliage from overpowering the mist, and subtle blue toning unifies the atmosphere.
Overall look
The finished image balances bright, ethereal mist against dark, subdued hillsides. Adobe Color provides the base rendering, but the final character comes mainly from compressed highlights, opened shadows, firm blacks, muted vegetation, and cool split toning. No Dehaze, Clarity, or Texture was added, so the fog keeps its naturally diffuse appearance rather than becoming artificially defined.
Light and tone
Exposure was raised slightly (+0.24), while Highlights were reduced strongly to -62. This brightens the scene without allowing the pale mist and sky to become harsh or lose their gentle gradation. Shadows at +40 reveal vegetation and rock detail, but Blacks at -22 restore a dark anchor in the foreground and along the slopes. Whites at +20 give the fog a luminous upper range, while the modest contrast increase and custom tone curve add separation through the darker terrain. The result is controlled dynamic range rather than a flat HDR-like rendering.
Color and atmosphere
White balance is near neutral daylight at 5400K with a slight magenta tint, avoiding an excessively green cast. Global Vibrance is raised moderately while overall Saturation is almost unchanged, but the foliage colors are selectively restrained: Green saturation is reduced substantially to -58, Yellow by -25, and Orange by -17. Green hue is shifted +13, helping move the vegetation away from a bright, dominant natural green. Subtle blue toning around hue 210 is applied to both highlights and shadows, more strongly in the highlights, which reinforces the cool blue-cyan appearance of the mist. Inference: these selective changes were intended to make the valley feel humid, distant, and atmospheric while keeping the greenery visually secondary.
Detail and capture context
Sharpening is moderate, with a standard radius and relatively low detail emphasis. Color noise reduction is applied at its default-strength level, while luminance noise reduction remains at zero. The ISO 100 capture provides context for that choice: there was little need to smooth luminance noise, allowing fine vegetation and rock texture to remain intact. Because sharpening masking is zero, sharpening can affect the fog as well as the terrain, but the moderate amount limits an overly crisp result.
Lens and finishing choices
The Adobe profile for the Sony FE 55mm F1.8 ZA is enabled to correct lens distortion and vignetting at full strength. There is no crop, perspective correction, added grain, post-crop vignette, or manual defringing. These restrained finishing choices keep attention on the natural valley shape and tonal transition into the fog rather than adding an obvious stylized frame.
What mattered most
- Strong highlight recovery preserves the bright fog while raised shadows reveal the valley walls.
- Lowered blacks and a custom curve keep the atmospheric image from looking washed out.
- Heavy green desaturation is central to the subdued, cinematic vegetation.
- Subtle blue toning unifies the shadows and mist without relying on Dehaze or Clarity.
- Minimal noise reduction and moderate sharpening suit the clean ISO 100 capture.
