Note on Looks
Looks are not included in the default downloadable preset. The reason is that they often require extra files installed on your system (e.g. many film emulation packs).
Without these files in place, the presets downloaded from PixelPeeper couldn't be imported. That's why PixelPeeper presets focus on universal settings. If you want to replicate the Look part, you can copy it manually, but in many cases, it won't have an effect without the looks installed on your computer first.
The "Full XMP Settings" version of the downloadable preset will include the look and other (complete) adjustments. If you have the required looks installed, you should be able to import this XMP file to Lightroom.

How this look was made
The edit turns the dusk scene into a subdued, film-like silhouette study. The palm trees remain nearly black against a controlled blue-to-warm sky, while lifted black rendering, restrained color, and visible grain soften the otherwise digital appearance.
Overall look
The composition relies on the graphic rhythm of the palm silhouettes and the natural twilight gradient. Adobe Color provides the starting color response, but the custom tone curve and moderate grain shift the result toward a muted, slightly matte film aesthetic rather than a crisp, high-contrast digital finish.
Light and tone
Exposure was raised by 0.40 EV and shadows by +33, helping reveal a little separation in the darkest foliage without eliminating the silhouette effect. Highlights were reduced by -36 to protect the brighter horizon and preserve the smooth sky gradient, while whites were raised slightly to keep the sunset edge luminous. The especially important treatment is the combination of Blacks at +27 and a custom curve with a raised black point: true black is softened into dark charcoal, producing the faded lower-end contrast visible in the trees. A small contrast increase prevents the lifted shadows from making the image feel completely flat.
Color
The as-shot white balance is relatively neutral at 5050K, with a strong greenward tint setting of -16. This supports the cool cyan-blue upper sky while keeping the horizon's yellow-orange glow understated. Vibrance is raised modestly while global saturation is almost unchanged, enriching weaker twilight colors without making the sunset look exaggerated. Blue is shifted slightly in hue and reduced in saturation, which helps create the restrained steel-blue sky; yellow is also shifted in hue to refine the warm transition near the horizon. No split toning or color grading was added, so the color contrast remains rooted in the scene itself.
Detail and texture
Standard sharpening was applied, but without edge masking, so it affects both the palm outlines and the sky texture. Color noise reduction at 25 suppresses chroma speckling, while luminance noise reduction is left at zero. The capture was made at ISO 800, which materially explains why color-noise cleanup is useful. Grain at 30, with medium size and frequency, then adds a more uniform, intentional texture across the sky; this likely blends the remaining sensor noise into the film-like treatment rather than trying to make the image perfectly smooth.
Optical and compositional finishing
The Adobe profile for the Sony FE 55mm F1.8 ZA is enabled at full distortion and vignetting correction strength, keeping the sky illumination and straight architectural elements near the lower-right edge optically controlled. There is no added vignette, dehaze, clarity, or texture, which helps the sky stay soft and avoids harsh halos around the palm silhouettes. A slight crop trims all four edges, tightening the frame without changing its orientation or introducing rotation.
What mattered most
- Lifted blacks and the raised tone-curve endpoint create the matte silhouette rendering.
- Highlight recovery preserves the bright horizon while a modest exposure lift opens the overall twilight scene.
- Restrained blue and yellow adjustments refine the cool-to-warm sky gradient without heavy color grading.
- ISO 800 color noise is controlled, then deliberate grain supplies a cohesive analog-style texture.
- The absence of clarity, dehaze, and added vignetting keeps the result soft, natural, and atmospheric.
