Note on Looks
Looks are not included in the default downloadable preset. The reason is that they often require extra files installed on your system (e.g. many film emulation packs).
Without these files in place, the presets downloaded from PixelPeeper couldn't be imported. That's why PixelPeeper presets focus on universal settings. If you want to replicate the Look part, you can copy it manually, but in many cases, it won't have an effect without the looks installed on your computer first.
The "Full XMP Settings" version of the downloadable preset will include the look and other (complete) adjustments. If you have the required looks installed, you should be able to import this XMP file to Lightroom.

How this look was made
The edit creates a muted, slightly cool urban-film look while preserving the bright overcast atmosphere. Broad tonal recovery keeps detail in the sky, reflective sculpture, buildings, and dark figures, while selective color desaturation and strong grain make the image feel less digitally pristine.
Composition and framing
A substantial portrait crop narrows the original frame around the curved sculpture on the left and the two people near the lower right. This strengthens the scale contrast between the small figures and the monumental architecture. No perspective correction or rotation was applied, so the converging buildings and distorted reflections remain part of the image’s energetic, observational character.
Light and tone
Exposure was raised by 0.55 EV, but highlights were pulled down strongly to -60. That combination brightens the overall scene without allowing the pale sky, façades, and reflective metal to become harsh or empty. Shadows at +23 and Blacks at +22 open the people, trees, and shaded architecture, while Contrast at -11 further softens the tonal separation. Whites at +7 retain some brightness and sparkle. The custom tone curve compresses the brightest output and gently reshapes the lower tones, reinforcing the subdued, print-like contrast rather than a crisp digital look.
Color treatment
The custom white balance of 5650 K with +7 tint gives the neutral architecture a modest warm/magenta correction, but the selective color work pushes the finished image toward restrained cyan-green urban tones. Blue saturation is reduced by 43, yellow by 46, red by 34, and green by a particularly strong 71. Green luminance is also lowered by 23, making the foliage darker and less attention-grabbing. Hue shifts reposition greens, yellows, reds, and blues without changing global Saturation or Vibrance. The individual red, green, and blue curves subtly separate the channels—visually, this appears to contribute cooler cyan-leaning shadows and upper midtones. This is a visual inference from the channel curves and the photograph.
Presence and detail
Clarity at +10 adds mild local contrast to building edges, pavement seams, and the sculpture without introducing a strongly processed texture. Sharpening is moderate at 40 with a 1.0 radius and no masking, so it is applied broadly across the frame. Color noise reduction is set to 25, while luminance noise reduction remains at zero. The ISO 100 capture was already relatively clean, which is consistent with preserving fine detail rather than smoothing it heavily.
Film-like effects
Grain is one of the defining finishing choices: Amount 40 with medium Size and Roughness introduces a clearly visible analog texture across the smooth sky, metal, and pavement. Because no post-crop vignette, dehaze, or added texture was used, the atmosphere remains open and evenly lit; the grain and compressed color carry most of the stylistic finish.
What mattered most
- Strong highlight recovery and lifted shadows produce a soft, readable high-dynamic-range scene.
- Selective HSL desaturation—especially in greens, blues, and yellows—creates the muted urban palette.
- Custom RGB curves add subtle cool color separation while the main tone curve compresses bright whites.
- The portrait crop emphasizes the relationship between the sculpture, architecture, and small human figures.
- Pronounced medium grain supplies the principal film-like texture without a vignette.
