Note on Looks
Looks are not included in the default downloadable preset. The reason is that they often require extra files installed on your system (e.g. many film emulation packs).
Without these files in place, the presets downloaded from PixelPeeper couldn't be imported. That's why PixelPeeper presets focus on universal settings. If you want to replicate the Look part, you can copy it manually, but in many cases, it won't have an effect without the looks installed on your computer first.
The "Full XMP Settings" version of the downloadable preset will include the look and other (complete) adjustments. If you have the required looks installed, you should be able to import this XMP file to Lightroom.

How this look was made
The edit creates a restrained, slightly matte architectural look that preserves the bridge and pale sky while keeping the brick buildings rich but not overly colorful. Strong highlight recovery, lifted shadows, and a compressed tone curve control the scene’s wide brightness range. Selective HSL desaturation removes distracting colors while allowing the red-orange masonry to remain the dominant color.
Composition and framing
A substantial crop tightens the view around the street canyon and bridge. Slightly more was removed from the left than the right, helping center the bridge tower and roadway. No perspective or Upright correction was applied, so the natural inward convergence of the buildings remains and reinforces their height. This is a visual inference from the crop and photograph.
Light and tone
Exposure was raised slightly (+0.26), but highlights were reduced very strongly (-79) and whites lowered (-18). This protects detail in the bright sky and the pale metal bridge structure. Shadows (+28) and blacks (+26) were opened to reveal cars, storefront edges, and masonry within the shaded street. The custom tone curve further compresses the range: its raised black endpoint gives the deepest tones a softened, matte floor, while its lowered white endpoint keeps the sky and bridge from becoming harsh. Together, these adjustments produce controlled contrast rather than a dramatic high-contrast rendering.
Color and white balance
The custom white balance of 6050K with +9 tint gives the scene a mild warm-magenta bias, complementing the brick without making the sky strongly warm. Color was shaped mainly through HSL rather than global Saturation or Vibrance, both of which remain at zero. Most secondary colors were heavily subdued—especially purple, yellow, magenta, blue, green, and aqua—while red received only modest desaturation and was brightened. Orange was also moderately desaturated but slightly lifted. This selective treatment keeps the brick façades visually prominent while making the sky, foliage, vehicles, and street details quieter. Hue shifts in red, orange, yellow, aqua, and blue also refine separation between the warm buildings and cool sky.
Detail and atmosphere
Clarity is increased only slightly (+6), adding modest definition to the bridge cables, steelwork, brick edges, and vehicles without producing a crunchy HDR effect. Sharpening is moderate, with a 1.0 radius and low detail emphasis; masking is zero, so sharpening is applied broadly across the frame. Color noise reduction is set to 25, while luminance noise reduction is absent. The ISO 100 capture materially explains why strong luminance smoothing was unnecessary.
Effects and optical treatment
No grain, post-crop vignette, or Dehaze was added, so the subdued atmosphere comes from tonal compression and color editing rather than stylized effects. Lens-profile correction, automatic lateral chromatic-aberration correction, defringing, and manual distortion correction are not enabled. The image therefore retains the lens’s native geometric character and natural edge illumination.
What mattered most
- Strong highlight recovery and raised shadows balance the bright sky against the shaded street.
- A lifted-black, lowered-white custom curve creates the soft, compressed matte finish.
- Selective HSL desaturation suppresses most colors while preserving the red-orange brick as the visual anchor.
- The crop strengthens the centered bridge composition without correcting the buildings’ natural perspective convergence.
- Minimal clarity and moderate sharpening retain architectural definition without making the image look aggressively processed.
