Note on Looks
Looks are not included in the default downloadable preset. The reason is that they often require extra files installed on your system (e.g. many film emulation packs).
Without these files in place, the presets downloaded from PixelPeeper couldn't be imported. That's why PixelPeeper presets focus on universal settings. If you want to replicate the Look part, you can copy it manually, but in many cases, it won't have an effect without the looks installed on your computer first.
The "Full XMP Settings" version of the downloadable preset will include the look and other (complete) adjustments. If you have the required looks installed, you should be able to import this XMP file to Lightroom.

How this look was made
The edit creates a cool, subdued blue-hour scene with the illuminated palace held as the visual focal point. Strong tonal recovery preserves the building and its reflection while deepened blacks, darkened foliage colors, and restrained saturation keep the surrounding trees and water atmospheric rather than distracting.
Overall look
The Adobe profile rendering is shaped into a cool teal-blue palette with muted natural colors. The image remains clean rather than heavily stylized: there is no added grain, vignette, clarity, texture, or dehaze. A moderate crop trims the frame on all sides without rotation; visually, this reinforces the centered palace and near-symmetrical reflection. That compositional intention is a reasonable visual inference.
Light and tone
Exposure was raised by 0.70 EV, then balanced with substantial highlight reduction (-66), shadow lifting (+77), and lowered whites (-21). This combination opens the dark lakeside scene and reveals the architecture without allowing its lamps and pale façade to become harsh. Blacks were reduced to -23, restoring depth in the trees and lower reflection after the broad shadow lift. The custom tone curve further compresses the extremes: its raised black endpoint gives the deepest tones a slightly softened floor, while its lowered white endpoint keeps the brightest areas gentle. Together, these adjustments create visible shadow detail while retaining strong dark framing around the palace.
Color and atmosphere
A custom white balance of 4750 K with a -11 tint establishes a cool, slightly green-leaning foundation appropriate to the blue-hour light. The HSL work is more selective than the modest global saturation increase of +2. Greens are shifted toward aqua, strongly desaturated, and darkened; aqua is shifted heavily toward blue, then darkened and desaturated; blue is also desaturated. This consolidates the foliage, water, and sky into restrained teal and blue families instead of vivid separate colors. Yellow saturation is reduced dramatically (-81), with orange also reduced, so the palace lighting reads as refined cream-white rather than intense yellow. The individual red, green, and blue curves add a subtle cool bias in darker values, supporting the cyan-teal shadows without obvious split toning.
Detail and capture context
Sharpening is moderate at 40 with a 1.0 radius and low detail emphasis, providing general definition without an aggressive crisp effect. Color noise reduction is set to 25, while luminance noise reduction is left at zero. Because the photograph was captured at ISO 1000, the color-noise treatment would be useful for suppressing chroma speckling in the dark trees and water; leaving luminance smoothing off preserves fine texture and natural grain. No extra clarity, texture, or dehaze was used, which helps the dusk atmosphere remain smooth.
Lens and finishing
The Adobe profile for the Sony FE 55mm F1.8 ZA is enabled at full distortion and vignetting correction strength. This supports clean architectural lines and even illumination without adding a manual vignette. No manual perspective correction was applied, so the finished geometry comes primarily from the original centered viewpoint, lens correction, and crop.
What mattered most
- Large shadow recovery and highlight compression reveal the palace while protecting its lights.
- Deepened blacks and darkened green/aqua channels keep the trees as a strong natural frame.
- Selective desaturation unifies the scene into cool teal-blue tones while keeping the palace lighting understated.
- Moderate sharpening and color-only noise reduction preserve detail from the ISO 1000 capture without making the image look overprocessed.
