Note on Looks
Looks are not included in the default downloadable preset. The reason is that they often require extra files installed on your system (e.g. many film emulation packs).
Without these files in place, the presets downloaded from PixelPeeper couldn't be imported. That's why PixelPeeper presets focus on universal settings. If you want to replicate the Look part, you can copy it manually, but in many cases, it won't have an effect without the looks installed on your computer first.
The "Full XMP Settings" version of the downloadable preset will include the look and other (complete) adjustments. If you have the required looks installed, you should be able to import this XMP file to Lightroom.

How this look was made
The edit creates a subdued, film-like sunset: warm light remains prominent while foliage, grass, and sky colors are heavily muted. The scene is brightened overall, but strong highlight recovery and a custom tone curve preserve the sunset and keep the foreground figures largely silhouetted. Lifted black output and softened whites give the contrast a gentle, slightly matte finish.
Overall look
The photograph is shaped around the warm sun and dark park silhouettes rather than vivid color or crisp digital contrast. Adobe Standard provides the base rendering, while the custom tone curve and selective HSL desaturation create most of the restrained, cinematic character. No clarity, texture, dehaze, grain, or added vignette was used, so the atmosphere comes primarily from tone and color adjustments.
Light and tone
Exposure was raised by 0.63 EV to brighten the frame, while Highlights at -55 hold detail and color around the sun and bright sky. Shadows at +37 recover some information in the grass, bicycles, and trees without eliminating their silhouette quality. A small contrast increase and slightly raised whites keep the sunlight luminous. The custom curve lifts the black endpoint, pulls down the lower darks, and lowers the white endpoint; together these produce deep but softly faded shadows and restrained highlights. The capture used -1 EV exposure compensation, which is consistent with protecting a high-contrast sunset; the Lightroom adjustments then rebalance the darker portions while retaining that highlight protection.
Color palette
White balance remains As Shot at 5250 K with a slight magenta tint, supporting the naturally warm sunset without imposing a strong global color cast. The key stylistic move is selective desaturation: yellow, green, aqua, and blue are reduced by roughly 40–50 points, with red, purple, and magenta also softened. Orange is almost untouched, allowing the sun and warm horizon to stand out against the muted environment. Large hue shifts in yellow and green further move foliage away from bright natural greens and yellows, producing a more subdued olive-toned landscape. Green luminance is lowered, making the vegetation feel denser, while brighter orange and aqua luminance help the glow and pale sky remain legible.
Color curves
The individual RGB curves introduce subtle color separation rather than obvious split toning. The curve relationships suggest slightly warmer dark tones, cooler or more neutral midtones, and gently yellow-green highlights. This is a visual inference from the channel curves, and it complements the warm sun without coloring the entire image uniformly. Dedicated color grading and split toning are both unused.
Detail and optical correction
Moderate sharpening was applied with a 1.0 radius and no masking, giving general edge definition across the frame rather than targeting only strong contours. Color noise reduction is set to 25, but luminance noise reduction is absent; that is appropriate to the clean ISO 100 capture. The Adobe profile for the Sony FE 55mm F1.8 ZA is enabled to correct the lens's native distortion and vignetting.
Crop and composition
The crop trims about 7% from both the left and bottom edges while leaving the top and right intact. As an inference, this tightens the park scene and shifts attention toward the sun, central tree trunks, bicycles, and seated figures without changing the camera angle or applying perspective correction.
What mattered most
- Highlight recovery and shadow lifting balance the sunset while preserving silhouettes.
- A lifted-black, lowered-white tone curve creates the soft matte contrast.
- Heavy desaturation of greens, yellows, aquas, and blues isolates the nearly untouched orange sunset glow.
- The natural atmosphere is not produced by clarity, dehaze, grain, or vignette effects; those controls remain neutral.
