Note on Looks
Looks are not included in the default downloadable preset. The reason is that they often require extra files installed on your system (e.g. many film emulation packs).
Without these files in place, the presets downloaded from PixelPeeper couldn't be imported. That's why PixelPeeper presets focus on universal settings. If you want to replicate the Look part, you can copy it manually, but in many cases, it won't have an effect without the looks installed on your computer first.
The "Full XMP Settings" version of the downloadable preset will include the look and other (complete) adjustments. If you have the required looks installed, you should be able to import this XMP file to Lightroom.

How this look was made
The edit creates a bright, controlled wildlife portrait that emphasizes the peacock’s blue-green plumage while keeping the concrete and other warm-colored surroundings subdued. Tonal recovery opens the dense feather shadows and restrains bright reflective strands, while selective HSL work separates turquoise, blue, and green without relying on global saturation. A substantial crop and perspective correction concentrate attention on the bird and the radial fan.
Overall look
The result is colorful but restrained rather than heavily stylized. The peacock’s cool iridescent colors receive most of the visual emphasis, while reds, oranges, and some greens are desaturated to prevent the surroundings and feather field from becoming chaotic. No global Vibrance or Saturation was added, so the color impact comes from targeted channel adjustments and the profile rather than a blanket boost.
Light and tone
Exposure was raised by 0.40 stop, making the bird and the shaded feather structure easier to read. Shadows were opened substantially (+31), while Highlights were reduced (-43) to retain the pale, reflective feather shafts and bright pavement. Whites were then raised (+34) and Blacks lowered (-25), restoring clean endpoints and giving the image punch after the tonal recovery. A small Contrast increase and a custom curve reinforce this: darker low-midtones add density, while the upper part of the curve gently brightens the fan. The interaction produces open detail without making the image look flat.
Color and plumage separation
A custom white balance of 5900 K with +10 Tint adds mild warmth and magenta, countering a potentially cool or green cast while preserving the peacock’s blue body. HSL adjustments do most of the creative color work: aqua is shifted strongly and made more saturated, blue is shifted slightly and desaturated, and green is also hue-shifted while slightly desaturated. Blue luminance is raised by +21 and green by +13, helping the neck, eye-spots, and green back remain visible inside the dark feather mass. Reds and oranges are each desaturated by 33, which suppresses warm distractions in the bird’s face, legs, pavement, and background. Yellow is shifted in the opposite direction and slightly brightened, refining the yellow-green rings in the eye-spots. Subtle per-channel tone curves further shape color through the shadows and highlights, but there is no explicit color grading or split toning.
Detail and noise
Sharpening is set to a moderate 40 with a 1.0 radius and no masking. This gives the many fine feather filaments broad, consistent sharpening, though it can also emphasize texture in the pavement and background. Texture, Clarity, and Dehaze remain at zero, so the intricate appearance comes primarily from the subject itself, tonal contrast, and sharpening rather than aggressive microcontrast. Color noise reduction is at the standard 25, while luminance noise reduction is zero. The ISO 100 capture supports that choice: chroma speckling is controlled without needing strong smoothing that could erase feather detail.
Crop, geometry, and cleanup
The image was cropped heavily from both sides and slightly from the top and bottom, producing a tighter composition around the bird and the radiating tail. This makes the peacock’s body the central anchor while allowing the fan to fill nearly the entire frame. Lens-profile correction for the Sony FE 55mm F1.8 ZA was enabled, and an Upright perspective mode was applied; visually, this helps keep the pavement and structural lines from competing with the fan’s symmetry. Retouch data shows several healing strokes and spots. Inference: these were likely used to remove small distracting marks or objects, but the exact removed subjects cannot be confirmed from the finished image alone.
Effects kept intentionally minimal
There is no added vignette, grain, dehaze, or post-crop darkening. This keeps the frame documentary and natural, allowing the crop, tonal endpoints, and the peacock’s own radial feather pattern to direct attention instead of an obvious finishing effect.
What mattered most
- Dynamic-range balancing is central: brighter exposure and shadows reveal the bird, while reduced highlights protect reflective feather detail.
- Selective HSL editing emphasizes aqua, blue, and green plumage while strongly muting warm distractions.
- Raised white and lowered black points restore crisp contrast after shadow and highlight recovery.
- Moderate sharpening and minimal noise reduction preserve the intricate feather structure of the ISO 100 capture.
- A tight crop, lens correction, perspective adjustment, and small healing edits simplify the composition without added vignette or grain.
